We recently opened up custom sewing projects to the public and we’re excited to share one of our recent projects with you!
We’ve been working on an amazing set of heavy, washed linen curtains for a lovely client’s lake house on Lake Travis outside of Austin. This client was looking for washable curtains with a modern and casual feel. She’s a dog lover and her three Australian Shepherds make their way in from the lake a little muddy and wet. She wanted to make sure if the curtains got dirty, they could easily be laundered without shrinkage.
Project details:
We made these curtains from 100% Home Furnishing Weight Linen in Natural and stonewashed the fabric to pre-shrink it and give it a softened, earthy look. We lined the fabric with a cotton / linen canvas in Natural to mimic the hand and look of the front but at a lower cost.
Project challenges:
There’s a large wall of windows and sliding glass doors with an amazing view of the lake that steps onto a large deck. There are four sliding glass doors on one side, one window in the middle, and two sliding glass doors on the left. One of the challenges was getting the width of the curtains just right. Our finished curtains had a few different widths: 55”, 82.5” and 110” to get appropriate coverage of the windows.
The curtains are currently hanging in our studio waiting for a renovation project at the lake house to be completed. Once they’re installed, we’re excited to share the finished product.
